Why Does Realme Phone Heat While Charging?
While researching Reddit & Realme Community, I found plenty of users suffering from the heating issue. So if you are wondering why a perfectly fine phone is heating up then I have shared some reasons below.
1. Charging Speed
One reason for the heating issues on Realme smartphones is the fast charging. Devices like my Realme GT 2 come with a 65-watt Super Dart charger that can charge my phone in 33mins, from 0 to 100%.
During my usage & research, I found that fast charging technology causes the Realme phone to heat while charging. I mean, there is no way the battery won’t heat when it is getting pumped with so much juice at once.
I know Realme claims Super Dart technology reduces heat but they don’t claim it removes it entirely. You can check my Realme GT 2 temps for yourself below, & let me tell you these temps are inside an air-conditioned room.
2. App Installed & Number Of Background Apps
Another thing that affects the battery temperature of Realme devices is the number of apps installed & the number of background apps running.
Therefore, if you are using a lot of news & social media apps then it can cause the Realme phone heating while charging. The reason for it is that they continuously run in the background & if the specs are not adequate, the device will overheat.
3. Botched Update
When I got Realme GT 2, the heating issue was not prominent until the latest Realme GT 2 C.9 Android 13 update arrived & made it worse. Now the device gets hot more often than before even with normal usage.
In fact, because of the botched update, I even saw Realme GT 2 displaying a battery temperature warning & asked me to unplug the charger.
How To Fix Realme Phone Heating While Charging?
There are plenty of ways you can fix the heating issue on Realme Android smartphones. I have listed 6 ways you can reduce Realme smartphone temperature in day-to-day usage.
1. Enable AutoFreeze
The first thing you need to do is, set up the auto freeze feature on your Realme smartphone. To find this feature follow the steps below.
- Open the Phone Manager app from the app drawer.
- On the home screen, scroll below & open the Battery option.
- On the next screen, scroll below & open Advanced Settings.
- Here you will find the App Quick Freeze Option, open it.
- On the next screen, you will find that all the apps installed are listed with a toggle next to it.
- Enable the toggle on the app that you want to get frozen when you are not using them. Once enabled, the app will not be allowed to run in the background.
Make sure you don’t enable the feature for the apps you want instant notification for if you will enable it for apps like Snapchat then you will not get notifications. So do keep that in mind otherwise you might some important notifications.
2. Optimise Battery Use
The next option to explore is the Optimise Battery Use option under the Battery section. Under Optimised Battery Use option, you will find that there are all installed apps listed with “Always Ask” written under them.
Now tap on any app that is draining the battery & causing the Realme phone to heat while charging or during normal usage. Three options will pop up which are Auto Optimise, Don’t Optimise, & Always Ask.
Auto Optimise
Select the auto-optimize option for power-draining apps that keep running & are potentially causing Realme Android phones to heat. Most of the time, I have found social media apps Facebook, Instagram, & Messenger to be a major culprits of these issues.
Don’t Optimise
Select this option only if the app is not running properly & you are not getting notifications on time from that particular app. This option will allow the app to use as much battery & remain working in the background.
Always Ask
By default, this option is selected which alerts you in case any app is using too many resources in the background. I would recommend leaving this setting enabled for banking & work-related apps. This will ensure you don’t miss any important notifications from the selected app.
3. Check Recommended Optimisation
A lot of features like Always On Display, high refresh rate, & network mode can cause Realme smartphones to heat. Think about it, I have launchers, social media apps, smartwatch apps, & other things running in the background 24*7.
These features & apps can cause Realme phones to heat up while charging, so to stop it, open the Battery option in Settings. You will see Recommended Optimisations on the next screen, tap on it. Now you will see some of the options that will prevent your Realme phone from heating up. Select the options & settings, you want to disable then tap on the Save Power button at the bottom.
By following the previous 3 settings I have shared, you will be able to fix Realme phone heating while charging.
4. Don’t Use The Smartphone While Charging & Avoid Fast Charging
If the heating issue is severe due to a botched update or any other reasons then I will recommend not to use a smartphone while charging. The heating is not good for the battery’s health as it can increase the battery’s aging process.
I know it’s not a perfect solution but Realme doesn’t provide the ability to turn off fast charging on Realme devices. The only function that comes closer to it is the Slow Charging At Night feature which you will find in the Battery settings. You can not slow charge your Realme during the daytime which is disappointing.
5. Use Lightweight Apps
Another way you can decrease the load on your Realme smartphone is by using lightweight apps. One great example of that is NewPipe, a great YouTube Alternative app. I have written Newpipe Review discussing why it is better than the Youtube app, so do check it out.
Similarly, you can find lightweight apps for Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, & other services. These apps consume fewer resources in the background & prevent Realme phones from heating while charging or for daily use.

6. Rollback To The Previous Update
When the latest update ruined the system stability of my Reallme GT 2 I had no choice but to downgrade back to Android 12. Similarly, you should be able to find a rollback package to the previous Android version. Doing that should fix the heating issue that might have started after the new update.
