Realme GT 2 Is Waterproof Or Not? Sort Of

On my Youtube channel Court Of Tech, one of my subscribers asked me, “Realme GT 2 is waterproof or not?”. I started researching on the “Realme GT 2 water-resistant rating” & found many blogs are reporting wrong information. That’s why, I decided to write this blog discussing the Realme GT 2 build in detail. So without any delay, let’s start with the blog.

Quick Navigation

Quick Takeaway

Realme GT 2 does have some sort of protection built in to protect it from water damage. However, it seems to be pretty basic & might not work every time so water splashes should be avoided.

Is Realme GT 2 Waterproof Or Not?

Is Realme GT 2 waterproof or not

Looking at the Realme GT 2 website, I found that it’s mentioned nowhere that Realme GT is waterproof or passed any water test. And, that’s where I also found that this phone doesn’t have any IP rating as well.

Similarly, many blogs claimed that it isn’t liquid-proof but I found a video of the Realme GT 2 water test by Gupta Information System. In that video, he conducted a water-resistant test on the Realme GT 2 & I have left the video link below. I would recommend checking the video out for yourself below.

So Can I Dip My Realme GT 2 In Water?

As you can see from the video above Realme GT 2 does have some water-resistant capabilities. To be honest, it reminds me of the old BBK electronics practice of not getting IP certification to save money. It started first with Oneplus Series 7 when BBK didn’t certify the device as it adds $30 to the cost of the device.

While this video above suggests that Realme GT 2 is waterproof but I won’t recommend testing it or becoming too chill while using it. There might be some waterproof sealing on GT 2 but it’s not necessarily reliable & almost all midrange phones today have this basic protection. They are not reliable and might even fail at first contact with water unless manufacturers mention it explicitly. Therefore, you should never dip your Realme GT 2 in water as it is not water resistant.

Conclusion

All in all, I won’t say that Realme GT 2 is liquid proof so you should prevent it from getting exposed to any liquid. The basic sealing it has should only be considered as a basic fail-safe mechanism & nothing more than that. Therefore, don’t whip out your phone when you are swimming in your backyard pool or use it in the bathroom during the shower.

In case, you were planning to dip GT 2 in water because your Realme GT 2 is heating while charging then it’s not going to fix the problem. Instead, I will recommend rolling back to Realme GT 2 previous version it might also help you with the heating issue.
